About Clariti

Built by someone who still does the job.

Clariti was not built by a software company that ran a few focus groups. It was built by a registered childminder, from many years of real inspection experience, real paperwork, and real frustration with tools that were never designed with childcare in mind.

The founder

I am Douglas Laing. I built Clariti because nobody else was going to.

I have been a registered childminder for many years. I operate in partnership with my wife Debbie in West Lothian, Scotland. I love the job. What I did not love was what came after the children went home.

Evenings and weekends spent updating paperwork. Cross-referencing frameworks I had already read a dozen times. Rewriting information I had already written somewhere else. And that creeping panic when you realise something is out of date and an inspection could be around the corner.

"The problem was never having the documents. It was never being sure they would stand up to inspection today."

I tried every template site I could find. I downloaded frameworks and tried to make them work for my setting. I spent over three years experimenting with AI models, refining prompts, testing outputs, learning what worked and what produced something no inspector would take seriously. That work is what sits inside Clariti today.

Alongside that, I spent time researching the legislation and frameworks across all four UK nations, understanding exactly where they differ and where they align. Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland each have their own regulatory body, their own inspection standards, and their own statutory requirements. Clariti uses that research to tailor every document, every framework reference, and every compliance prompt to your nation automatically, based on where your setting is registered. Wherever you are in the UK, the system works for you.

I did not build this because I spotted a market gap on a spreadsheet. I built it because I was tired, and I knew every other childminder in the country was tired of the same thing.

The problem

The tools that exist were never built for this.

Template sites hand you a blank document and leave you to figure out the rest. Generic AI tools have no idea what a Care Inspectorate inspection looks like. Word folders work until they do not, and then you spend a weekend trying to find the right version of the right policy. Childminders deserve better than that.

01

Templates are not enough

A blank template does not know your setting, your nation, your frameworks, or what has changed since the template was written. Filling it in is still all on you.

02

Generic AI gets it wrong

Off-the-shelf AI tools confuse regulatory bodies, reference the wrong frameworks, and produce documents that look professional but would not survive scrutiny. Getting it right took over three years of learning what right actually looks like.

03

The same information, written four times

A child's medical needs go into their file, their care plan, their risk assessment, and their emergency record. It is the same information. There is no reason you should have to write it four times.

How Clariti is built

Principles that are not negotiable.

Every decision about how Clariti works comes back to the same question: does this make the childminder's life easier without compromising their professional standards?

✍️

AI assists expression, not judgement

You were in the room. You know what happened. Clariti helps you record it clearly and in a form that will stand up to inspection. It does not tell you what you observed or what a child needs. That is your professional judgement, and it stays yours.

πŸ—ΊοΈ

Nation-specific by default

Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland. Each nation has its own regulatory body, its own frameworks, and its own inspection standards. Clariti detects your nation from your postcode and applies the correct one automatically. You never have to think about it.

πŸšͺ

Accessible to everyone

Not every childminder is comfortable with technology. Not every setting is paperless. Clariti is built to work however you work, whether that means fully digital, printed folders, or something in between. The barrier to getting started is as low as we can make it.

πŸ”—

Ask once, know everywhere

A child's name, date of birth, medical needs. You enter it once. Every document that needs it has it. Nothing is ever duplicated. Nothing goes out of date in one place while remaining current in another.

πŸ“‹

Statutory compliance, nothing less

Every feature in Clariti exists because the law requires it in at least one UK nation. There is no filler, no nice-to-haves, no features that look impressive but serve no compliance purpose. If it is in Clariti, it is there for a reason.

πŸ”’

Children's data treated with care

The data held in Clariti is sensitive. Children's health records, family information, developmental notes. We treat it with the level of care the law requires and that families deserve. EU-hosted, encrypted, never sold, never shared beyond what is necessary to run the platform.

Where Clariti is going

Starting with childminders. Built for everyone who cares for children.

Clariti launches with registered childminders across all four UK nations. That is the group I know best, and getting it right for them is the only thing that matters right now.

Phase two brings nurseries, daycare settings, and childcare groups into the platform. The foundations being built today, the nation-specific logic, the ask-once architecture, the statutory compliance framework, are designed to carry the weight of a much larger system.

The goal has always been the same. Every childcare professional in the UK should be able to spend less time on paperwork and more time with children. Not because compliance does not matter, but because the best compliance is the kind you can actually keep up with.
