Why Clariti exists

Childcare paperwork
is not getting easier.

More inspections. More paperwork. More changing guidance. More pressure on providers. You became an early years practitioner because you care about children, not because you wanted to spend your evenings on compliance forms. Generic tools were never designed with childcare in mind. Clariti was built by registered childcare professionals to reduce the compliance burden without reducing your standards.

3+
Hours each week many childminders lose to paperwork instead of spending time with children
20+
Policies a registered childcare setting must maintain, all requiring correct legislative references
0
Most childcare software was not built around compliance. Clariti was.
Built by a childminder

Clariti was built by someone who lives this.

I am Douglas Laing, a registered childminder operating in partnership with my wife Debbie in West Lothian, Scotland. I built Clariti because I experienced the paperwork burden firsthand. Evenings lost to documentation. Uncertainty about whether documents would stand up to inspection. Constant changes with no notification.

Clariti is not built by a software company that consulted a few practitioners. It is built by someone who still does the job, understands the inspection frameworks, and knows exactly what inspectors look for.

Self-Evaluation / Inspection Readiness

Every completed observation, policy review, risk assessment and training update automatically contributes to your self-evaluation evidence. Live gap indicators show you exactly where your evidence is strong and where it needs attention, so you are never caught out before an inspection.

Ethical by design

Clariti assists
expression.
Not judgement.

Technology should support practitioners, not replace their professional judgement. Every document Clariti helps create carries a practitioner declaration confirming the content reflects their own observations. Every AI-assisted section is clearly identified. Because the person who was in the room is the only one who truly knows what happened there.

✍️
Practitioner sign-off on every document

Every generated document includes a declaration that the content accurately reflects the practitioner's own professional judgement.

👁️
Review before anything is saved

A mandatory review step on every observation and plan. The practitioner reads, edits and confirms before anything is finalised.

🏷️
AI suggestions clearly labelled

Where Clariti suggests content for a blank field, it is visibly identified as a Clariti suggestion. Practitioners always know what they wrote and what was generated.

📋
Policies require a named approver

Every generated policy must be reviewed and approved by a named manager. High-risk policies carry an explicit recommendation for professional review before adoption.

Observations Guide

Everything you need to know about childminder observations.

Observations are at the heart of everything inspectors assess. Most childminders write what they saw. Few include what separates a compliant observation from one that stops an inspector in their tracks.

Our complete UK guide covers what an observation is, what it must include, what inspectors look for across all four nations, and the elements that elevate a good observation to an exceptional one, including framework references, UNCRC links, next steps, and the child's own voice.

📋
What must be included
A nine-point checklist covering every element inspectors expect to see, from framework references to next steps and the child's voice.
🗺️
Nation-specific frameworks
Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland each have different frameworks. The guide covers all four, with jump links to your nation.
What makes an observation exceptional
The elements that elevate an observation from functional to memorable, including UNCRC references, home links, and specific next steps.
🔍
The four gaps inspectors find every time
No framework references, no UNCRC, no corresponding evidence, no next steps. Each one avoidable. Each one covered in the guide.
📅
Out of date and out of step
The most common problem inspectors find. Policies written at registration and never returned to, with outdated legislation references and no review date.
🏡
Linked to your actual setting
A policy that could apply to any childminder anywhere is not specific enough. Inspectors can tell immediately whether a policy reflects your setting or a generic template.
🔗
Cross-referenced to other policies
Policies do not exist in isolation. Your safeguarding policy connects to your confidentiality policy, your accident recording procedure, and your mobile phone policy.
⚖️
Correct legislation for your nation
Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland each have their own legislative framework. The guide covers all four with the specific references inspectors expect to see.
Policies Guide

Everything you need to know about childminder policies.

Most childminders have policies. Few have policies that would fully stand up to inspection. Outdated legislation references, generic templates, language the practitioner cannot explain, and no cross-references between documents.

Our complete UK guide covers what policies you need, what inspectors actually check, the five mistakes that let childminders down, and what a policy set that genuinely reflects your setting and your nation looks like.

Risk Assessments Guide

Everything you need to know about childminder risk assessments.

Written once and forgotten. Not reviewed when conditions change. Generic templates that describe someone else's setting. No dynamic risk assessment element for the variables that cannot be predicted in advance.

Our complete UK guide covers what assessments you need, what a complete assessment contains, the seven mistakes inspectors find every time, and the dynamic risk assessment approach that separates confident practitioners from those hoping for the best.

🔄
Written once, never reviewed
The most common problem. Your setting changes, children change, seasons change. A document describing your setting as it was two years ago does not protect the children in your care today.
Dynamic risk assessment
Static documents cover predictable hazards. Dynamic risk assessment covers the variables that change in real time, on outings, in changing weather, with changing moods and energy levels.
🗺️
Nation-specific requirements
Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland each have their own frameworks. The guide covers all four with the legislative references inspectors expect to see in your assessments.
🏡
Specific to your setting
A risk assessment that could have been written about any childminding setting is not a risk assessment. It is a template. The full list of what you need covers every space, activity and outing.
